Coffee Meets Bagel goes for a slightly different approach than that of the likes of Tinder. Rather than throwing every potential match at you at once and letting you swipe through them, you get one potential match per day. You then have several days to consider each match before it disappears.
It is for this reason that I call it a more ‘grown-up’ dating app. There is no instant gratification. No number counting of matches and not anywhere as much ghosting or acting the fool. With Coffee Meets Bagel, if you blow your chance, it is very unlikely that a match will make its way round to you again anytime soon to give it another try. That forces everyone to raise their game.
Change your location in Coffee Meets Bagel
If the wrong location is selected by the app or you move to a different city, you will want to see local Bagels instead of those in your old home town. You can easily change your location in Coffee Meets Bagel.
Here’s how:
On the iOS app:
- Select Me and then your Profile.
- Select Edit and Details.
- Select Location and change it.
On Android:
- Select Profile and Details.
- Select Current City and then Country and City.
- Change your location.
Changes are reflected within the app immediately but may take a day or two to percolate through the system.

The Coffee Meets Bagel app will want to link itself to your Facebook account. You download the app, create an account, link your Facebook account and allow the app to access data, location and all that good stuff. Once the pairing is done, you are presented with some questions about your education, height, background and then your preferences. You can select potential matches through distance, age range, height range, religion, ethnicity and so on.
Selecting images for Coffee Meets Bagel
Coffee Meets Bagel is quite generous in that it lets you showcase up to 9 images on your profile. That’s more opportunities to show yourself at your best and to attract as many potential mates as possible. The app recommends a minimum of 6 images, but I would recommend going all the way with 9. As images are powerful in dating, it makes sense to use everything you’ve got to attract a match.
The same rules apply to Coffee Meets Bagel as they do on Tinder, Bumble, and many other mobile dating apps.
Make your primary pic a good one. It should be a head and shoulder shot with good lighting, good composition, and a smile. Make it as attractive as you can and look approachable. The apps target audience favors a more sophisticated look.
Make the other eight images equally good, but you can use more imagination here. If you work in a uniform, add a pic of that. If you volunteer at an animal shelter, add one of those. If you perform on stage, add an image or two of that. If you play in a band or perform, add an image. Use these supporting images to build a picture of who you are.
Again, Coffee Meets Bagel is a more serious dating app for longer-term relationships. You get one shot at being matched, so make those images tell a story.
Coffee Meets Bagel is a different take on dating than many other dating apps. It removes much of the surface level nature of other dating apps and replaces it with the slow burn of hope. It may not provide any more chance of a match than any other app, but neither does it pretend to.
